This hat carries a lot of history and pride. Our track was originally opened in 1957. Carroll Shelby won the feature race on the track’s inaugural weekend in August of that year, in a Maserati 450S. The track is a road course and hosts many events throughout each season, including the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. These events not only bring the best road course racers from our great nation, but also drivers from around the world, including winners of the 24 Hours of Daytona and 24 of Le Mans. The track was closed in 1974 and reverted to farmland for grazing cattle. In 1998, our current owner and her real estate development partner bought the track, started a resurrection process, and reopened the track in 2000.
The hat carries the VIR logo, which includes an outline of the track and is used in our Victory Lane Podiums at our major events.
