This hat is special to me because it was a Father’s Day gift from my kids and one of the oldest hats I own. We call this hat my drunk hat. Many years ago, I was out with my friends celebrating a birthday. I put my hat down on the table for a minute and a beer was spilled all over it. Fast forwarding to driving home, I was pulled over and the officer said he was smelling alcohol in my car. The hat was on the passenger’s side seat. I explained that my friends had spilled beer on my hat that was on the table, and I was not drunk. I showed the hat to the officer, while he did see the hat was wet and clearly smelled like alcohol, he still insisted on making me do a sobriety test, which I passed with no problem. We then both laughed at me, and he told me to get home and wash my “drunk hat”. Despite the close call, my drunk hat remains special to me as a reminder of the fun and foolishness of younger years.
